The red ruffed lemur is the largest species of lemur. It lives in the tropical rainforests of Madagascar. Two subspecies are known: the red-and-black and the white-and-black. It inhabits the canopy, where it spends the day mainly resting and sunbathing
It lives in small family groups of 2–5 individuals, led by the highest-ranking female. The groups defend their territory with deafening roars
