It is active during the day, when it circles in the air in search of food. Its flight is characterized by gliding without wing beats. Thanks to its keen eyesight, it can spot the carcasses of dead animals—its food source—from great distances. Vultures nest in colonies, close to one another. It was named after the German naturalist Eduard Rüppell.
