The vari is the largest lemur. It lives in the canopy, spending most of the day resting and basking in the sun. It moves skillfully along tree branches, leaping from tree to tree with great bounds. It feeds exclusively on fruit. It lives in groups of three to five animals, consisting of parents and their immature offspring. The groups defend their territory with loud, deafening screams and mark it with scent marks.
